Nassau, NY-(June 22, 2013) Two nights and two separate bizarre events were the highlights for Matt Pappa this weekend. On Friday evening Pappa got ready to line up for his feature event at Albany Saratoga Speedway when the lights shut off when the generator went down leaving the huge crowd in darkness and cancelling the last race of the evening.
On Saturday night Pappa got pinched into the fence in his heat race and rolled his No. 20Jr. race car in a violent flip. His determined crew replaced the entire front end and banged the body back into place to line him up in 26th starting spot for the 30 car feature event.
“My guys were incredible,” said Pappa. “After seeing what the car looked like when we got back in the pits I thought no way will we race.”
Pappa quickly began picking off cars but slight contact on lap 12 gave Pappa a flat tire after moving all the way up to 12th place. Again his Brett Hearn crew got him back out and started scratch with 8 laps to go. He quickly rebounded from last for a hard fought 11th place finish, side-by-side with 10th place competitor.
“I have never seen a team work as hard as mine did,” added the exhausted teen.” “I am so proud to be a part of Brett Hearn Racing Enterprises…tonight I learned that they give their all and I can’t thank them enough.”
Matt’s next race is this Friday June 28th at the Albany Saratoga Speedway for double feature events.
